Dominique Davenport is an Artist- Illustrator- Model who was born and raised in New York City. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art for Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2014. She also attended the High School of Art and Design.

"My most recent art series has found a way to depict the two worlds of being a formally-trained fine artist and illustrator with very different aesthetics and life experiences than most of my professional peers. I have been searching for a way to meld my different beings.

Throughout my varying artistic styles, portraits of women have always been present. Historically, portraits were a means to portray people of power.  Through my depiction of “everyday” women of color, I am empowering, paying tribute and dedicating time and space to such characters. I began experimenting with fluid, abstract paintings. It is whimsical and has forced me to let go of my tight-artistic control. I began to trust serendipitous moments that spray creativity in a new way simply by playing with colors and gravity.

I  began pairing these vibrant, shockingly bright fluid works with my carefully-painted portraits. Surprisingly, they work seamlessly and make both elements more interesting. I realized they are a visual entanglement of my own complicated roles. My urban upbringing and my professional exterior."
